Reforestation with Clay Seed Balls
In this activity of The Vibrant Garden we will learn about the Japanese technique ‘nendo dango'
Reforesting with clay seed balls is the activity proposed by The Vibrant Garden. The materials you will need are: clay, compost, native species seeds, mineral or chlorine-free water and other additives such as mineral salts, herbs that repel possible predatory fauna and wool, cotton or coconut fibre to compact the mix. After making the balls, you just need to choose the place you want to reforest and scatter them. This technique is known as nendo dango and was developed by Japanese farmer Masanobu Fukuoka.
