Carmen Nájera: «Science is well regarded, but poorly funded»

IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Awards 2015

Carmen Nájera, Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Alacant, was one of the winners of the Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Award of the IUPAC in 2015. The award recognises the professional career of women from all the fields of chemistry. We talk to Carmen Nájera to discuss the award, as well as the situation of women scientists in Spain, the importance of scientific education and the challenges women find when they devote their career to it. She also explains her current research and her participation in the Medalchemy spin-off. In addition, she gives her opinion on scientific communication in Spain and suggests some ideas to boost the scientific vocation among children and youth.
